We are campers so when we see bad weather approaching we crank it and adjust to the appropriate station depending on our location. It is an excellent radio for the price and of course you have to be smarter than the radio to get the appropriate station. :). We purchased this for camping and then purchased additional radios as gifts for family members, then I purchased one for the house. Volume control super-crackly, sporadic shut-downs, just 2 or 3 AM channels in a busy zone, no FM that I could find, crackly audio, no weather channels. The worst I have ever tested. You can get a Radio Shack or Sony or Panasonic pocket AM/FM radio that is vastly better, with dozens of stations loud and super-clear, for about $10 to $20. And radios like those run dozens of hours on a change of batteries, so the generator thing solves a non-issue. I bought a very cheap headphone radio at a dollar store that was better than this....much better. What a horror it would be to discover this thing's issues in a real disaster.
