5.0 out of 5 stars These work great with or without earbuds, November 2, 2008

Hi. I have a couple of Peltor Optimes: these 101's and also a pair of 105's. (I thought I'd lost the 105's so I got these, and even though the 105's reappeared I like these somewhat better.)

I didn't get these because I shoot guns on a rifle range. I got them because I ride the New York subway every day. These give me peace, quiet, serenity and bliss. And, when I combine these with a pair of earbuds (I really like the Bose Triports) and an MP3 player, I get music I can actually hear (unlike all the other people on the train, who try to compensate for the train's noise by turning their music up really loud - poor things! They still can't hear the music and they're ruining their hearing). Even on a fast moving train I can hear not only the quiet violin parts of a Vivaldi concerto, but also the ECHO of the violin notes. Fantastic. You can pay $300 for a pair of noise cancelling headphones that will sorely tempt every petty thief who sees you, or you can get these,... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Noise Reduction Capability, March 14, 2007

I found these earmuffs while shopping for more expensive, electronic noise-cancellation headphones, and I decided to give them a try before investing in something electronic.

The reason I was in the market is that I am a graduate student and an English teacher, and I needed a quiet space at home to work. Our house is very small, and when my wife watches TV in the evenings it is difficult for me to concentrate on my reading. These earmuffs do an excellent job dampening every ambient sound in the room. At a normal listening volume, the TV--which is less than 10 feet away--sounds like it is on the other side of a thick wall. If I concentrate while wearing the earmuffs, I can still detect faint snippets of dialogue, but the dampened TV volume becomes so quiet that I can focus on academic reading.

These earmuffs are big enough and strong enough to do the job! They would probably be a bit cumbersome for travel, since they are made for working in noisy environments... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Wear glasses? You may want to read this..., November 16, 2010

This review is from: Peltor H7A Optime 101 Over-the-Head Earmuff (Tools & Home Improvement)
Spending a lot of time writing reviews is not my first priority, but sometimes I am compelled to share. In the great world of design, it seems that left-handed people and people who wear eyeglasses are forgotten. Are all engineers and designers right-handed 20/20 vision folks? These earmuffs reduce noise as advertised, but wearing them with glasses is uncomfortable. There are dozens of choices on Amazon, so if you wear glasses, keep looking. And if you find something comfortable, post a review. All of us with less than 20/20 eyesight will thank you.
