Tried a few Peltor passive muffs with built in speakers but the sound of the mowers still overpowered even with the mp3 player all the way up. Ended up using ear buds connected to the player under the muffs but that is a hassle and not comfortable at all.Then I found the Noisebusters and they turned out to be what I needed. In passive mode they worked better than the Peltors but when you turn on the noise cancellation you get an amazing surprise. The outside world almost gets completely turned off. The audio is fine with me but then I mostly listen to podcast or audio books. I can turn my mp3 player down and still hear the spoken voice clearly. Impressive technology. Now for the bad. These do not hold up in humid conditions at all. Sweat gets on the noise canceling microphones disrupting what it is suppose to do and you get a really loud high pitched noise. The foam muff that... The second thing was, yes they do have better noise reduction....I can hear my music at a lower volume.BUT, I was getting intermittent static in one of the speakers and the batteries would only last 6-8 hours. I definitely had a bad set. My first mistake was ordering mine directly from the manufacturer, instead of here. They did exchange them for a new set, but their customer service was aggravating to deal with. They didn't offer information (if, how, and when I would be reimbursed for my return shipping cost)...I had to pry it out of them. It would be nice if they had a volume control on the headset. They are hot and heavy, but I guess that's to be expected with earmuffs. To sum it up....If I had these Noise Busters and some Peltor Tunes on hand to compare, I would have gone with the Peltor Tunes. I can tell there is a difference in performance...
